Top Tips on New Year's Resolutions for 2015

If your New Year's Resolution was to move house, it is certainly much more ambitious than just giving up chocolate or going to the gym. You will need to read our Top Tips on how to Move Home Successfully in 2015 to ensure that you make your move stress-free.

TOP TIPS FOR MOVING HOME IN 2015

1. PRE-PLAN
The key to a successful move is all in the planning. It is never too early to book a home survey from one of our professional consultants to get an idea of costs and also a break down of the moving process. The consultant will assess what you have to move and if any items need special handling. They will also discuss packing and storage options with you.

Top Tip - arrange your home survey online with us today.

Online property websites are a good start%44 but also remember to register with local estate agents

2. FIND YOUR NEW HOME
Whilst the internet is a fabulous tool, you can waste a lot of time browsing unsuitable properties online. Register with local estate agents as a potential buyer and they will contact you with any up-and-coming homes, sometimes before they have even gone on to the world wide web.

Top Tip - RightMove, Primelocation and Zoopla all feature properties currently for sale in the UK.

3. DECLUTTER
Decluttering your home, especially after the glut of Christmas, can be an extremely cathartic exercise. Decluttering can help you in 2 ways - firstly it can make your home more appealing and therefore sell quicker, secondly it will make packing easier as you will only be packing the essential, must-have items.

Top Tip - Bishop's Move operates a "Declutter and Donate" scheme in which we will collect your no longer required items on moving day and donate them straight to charity for you.

Make sure you pack non-essential items a little in advance of move day

4. PACKING
If you do not opt for any of our packing services and decide to do-it-yourself please make sure you start packing the non-essential items in advance of your move - a little and an often approach to packing will make the light work of the chore. Also dissemble any large items of furniture that need moving so that they are ready to go on Move Day (we do have handymen who can do this for you). Remember not to over pack boxes, especially with heavy items such as books, or they will be too heavy to lift.

Top Tip - write on each box what you have packed and for what room it is for. It will make unpacking much easier.

5. INFORM SERVICES THAT YOU ARE MOVING
Remember to inform all services of your move. This includes all the utility companies that you pay bills to, the council, your doctor, dentist, the post office and any other services that you may be moving away from.

Top Tip - use our moving house checklist to remind you when you should inform services of your move.

Send your Friends and Family an e-Card with your new address

6. TELL EVERYONE YOUR NEW ADDRESS
And once you have settled in to your new home, don't forget to tell your friends and family your new address.

Top Tip - use our free "We've Moved" eCard service to email your friends and family your new address and contact details.

And that's it - all that is left to do is enjoy 2015 in your new home.
